88 Canteen is a modestly sized Chinese and Hong Kong-style breakfast spot tucked right on Main Street in Flushing. Its unassuming storefront and quick service make it a familiar stop for locals looking to grab comforting dishes that remind them of Hong Kong’s everyday dining.

The atmosphere here leans into simple and functional rather than fancy, with customers often opting for takeout or a quick sit-down to enjoy a low-key meal. It’s the kind of place where you’ll see families stopping in for breakfast before the day picks up, or folks swinging by during lunchtime for a flavorful, no-fuss meal. The staff are known for being polite and efficient, keeping the pace brisk to match the neighborhood’s busy rhythm.

The menu delivers classic Hong Kong flavors, centered around breakfast fare and savory staples. Standouts that regularly draw repeat visits include their Beef Chow Fun — broad, tender rice noodles with savory beef — and the 88孖寶, a combo featuring mixed-sauce rice rolls alongside the Macau-style pork chop bun. Breakfast options like Condensed Milk Toast and the Ham Lunch Meat Hot Dog with Fried Eggs on Rice offer that nostalgic taste of local Hong Kong cafés, paired often with freshly brewed Hong Kong Style Milk Tea, which is a popular draw for anyone wanting a touch of familiarity in their cup.

88 Canteen is especially busy in the mornings when locals stop in for hearty breakfast sets that come with coffee or tea. While there’s limited seating and parking can be a challenge on Main Street, many find that ordering ahead and taking food to go is the most convenient way to enjoy their meal. The vibe is casual and straightforward — no frills, just honest flavors and quick turnaround.

For diners who appreciate authentic Hong Kong comfort food without leaving Flushing, 88 Canteen offers an accessible spot to reconnect with familiar tastes. Whether you’re craving the sizzling black pepper beef or the sweet contrast of pineapple bun with butter slice, it’s a place where you can enjoy straightforward, well-executed dishes that fit right into the pulse of the neighborhood’s everyday life.

One of our favorite fast food restaurants. Oatmeal and ham & egg bun are great! Kids like it. A good taste of HK food. The only thing is hard to find street parking. Order in advance and take out could be the best option.

Really good food, and the staff is polite. I highly recommend the yangzhou fried rice and the beef ho fun.

I've been going to these guys for years! Great HK-style food and their iced HK milk tea always has me reminiscing of Hong Kong. The ladies are quick and the food is always hot and fresh. Always worth a drive to stop by and pick up food and bites!

If you want to eat where the locals eat, this is the place to go!! It is a small hole in the wall place but smack on Main Street, very conveniently located. Service is quick, the price decent, food authentic. We went there for their authentic breakfast sets. I loved their condensed milk toast and eggs that comes with coffee or tea. I would definitely recommend this place for authentic Chinese food. They also have freshly baked desserts and bubble tea. The downside is that it is cash only and has very limited seating which makes it very crowded during peak times.

This place is great! Ladies are very nice. Got a bunch of stuff. All was good. Only took 1 star off for bathroom. No toilet paper and a little dirty…Chinese standard it’s fine. Hahahaha ~~

They have a Hong Kong style rice noodle or cheung fun (肠粉) that is not commonly found, I highly recommend the rice noodles with fish balls. It has a peanut sauce and sesame seeds as well as hoisin and soy sauce. It is absolutely delicious, reminds me of my childhood.

Great little spot to get a good meal. Flavors or good but not typical of Chinese takeouts. Like the pork chops are served on top of ground pork with pickled vegetables. General Tao’s was delicious. Portions are good for one person but can be shared if you’re not a big eater
